How to Install Wooden Cladding for Interior Walls?
Installing wooden cladding involves a few steps:
- Preparation: Not a whole lot needs to be done to the wall before installing. Just make sure you remove any shelves, pics or anything else hanging on the wall that might get in the way. At this time you can remove the baseboard and reinstall over the wall cladding material if so desired. Leaving the materials in the room to be installed for a few days, beforehand, to let them acclimate is recommended but not required.
- Measure and Cut: Measure your wall and cut the wood panels for the first row, typically starting at the ceiling and working your way down. The last piece of the row is a good starter for the next row.
- Adhesive: The use of adhesive and nails is a good way of installation. Adhesive is not necessary but does add security of the wood to the wall. A caulking tube of adhesive is a great way to go.
- Attach Panels: Start by drawing lines on the wall where the studs are so you know where to nail. The use of a pneumatic finish nail gun is very helpful. Start your first row at the top along the ceiling and work your way down nailing into each stud after the adhesive is spread on the wall, frequently checking alignment.
- Finish: Add trim pieces around doors, windows, and corners for a polished look if necessary. The use of a sealer to protect the wood may be desirable but not necessary. The sealer can be applied to the reclaimed wood before installation or after.
- Finally sit back and enjoy your beautiful creative project!
What Type of Sealer Should Be Used to Protect the Wood Cladding?
To protect your wood cladding, you can use a water based or an oil based sealer. WE sell both options in the store. These sealants provide a durable, protective finish that helps preserve the wood’s natural beauty and enhances its durability against moisture and wear, and helps keep the wood clean.
